BUSINESS CHALLENGE
The Client was migrating a recently acquired firm from on-premise to an Azure environment. The legacy change Management system was inadequate in providing developer velocity and agility, and to scale up and handle continuous integration. This resulted in inferior quality and additional operational overheads.
The client was looking to improve developer experience to ship faster products and move to a modern DevOps environment. The on-premise resources were moving to Azure and the TFS was catering to the on-premises resources.
The process thus needed a complete overhaul and integration with the existing setup.
Mphasis migrated the complete Devops toolchain, including SCM (Azure Repos), collaboration (Teams), Project Management (Azure Boards) and CI/CD (Azure Devops). TFS2015 was first migrated to TFS2018 and the TFS migration tool was then used to migrate to ADO.
Microsoft Teams was deployed as a collaboration tool to improve the connectedness and communication of developers. Agile processes allowed user management to be under client’s Active Directory to enhance productivity, collaboration and governance. The Mphasis team also revised all security and automation tools, and applied ‘Shift-left’ automation with zero-trust principles.
Additionally, Devops process was implemented for on-premises resources during migration phases as a hybrid deployment.
The migration to Azure DevOps and re-platforming provided the following benefits:
25 percent improvement in developer productivity through agile processes; 20-25% overall increase in productivity
Enhanced security and controls
High collaboration and better governance
Faster and integrated zero-down deployments with automation via triggers into Azure resources
